I’ve searched my shelves, Goodreads list, asked friends, and read numerous reviews to develop my list, so here it is: 15 Diverse YA to Add to Your Library!
1. The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson
2. Dear Martin by Nic Stone
3. Toxic by Lydia Kang
4. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
5. It’s Not Like It’s A Secret by Misa Sugiura
6. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
7. The Afterlife by Gary Soto
8. A Thousand Beginnings and Ending by Ellen Oh
9. Sold by Patricia McCormick
10. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
11. Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard Trilogy by Rick Riordan
12. The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
13. Monster by Walter Dean Myers
14. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
15. The Radius of Us by Marie Marquardt
This was a hard list for me to make. As soon as I found a few titles I wanted to feature, I would see 5 more I thought were a better fit.
Besides struggling to stick to 15 books, I quickly realized I had no idea what I really want to focus on. Race? Gender? Family? Body Imagine? Mental Health? Sexuality? SO MANY topics! I tried to make a broad list, but I do not know if it is even possible. I tried my best to build a diverse list and pick newish and older titles–hopefully, you found a new read or have read a few yourself.
If want to be able to explain diversity in simple terms, check out this link that is 100% kid-friendly.
Have you read any of these books? What titles would you add to this list or remove? What books would be on your list for diversity?
Great list! I’ve read a few but some are new to me.

The Art of Being Normal looks so good! I also really need to read The Hate U Give but I’m always too emotional when I start reading the bloody thing! This year…this year, it’s happening!
Thank you for the list!! I’m always looking for some more diversity in books!
