Day 10: The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
The Poet X is a book written in prose/poetry. I do not like poetry, but I still want to give The Poet X a chance to blow my mind. Recommend to me by a reading buddy, I have been putting it off simply because of the poetry.
The Poet X has amazing reviews on Goodreads and I have seen it at my local bookstore, which must mean something since I struggle to find newer reads there.
“A young girl in Harlem discovers slam poetry as a way to understand her mother’s religion and her own relationship to the world. Debut novel of renowned slam poet Elizabeth Acevedo.
Xiomara Batista feels unheard and unable to hide in her Harlem neighborhood. Ever since her body grew into curves, she has learned to let her fists and her fierceness do the talking.” Summary from Goodreads.
