6 Ways to Celebrate A Game of Thrones

Winter is here.png

I am a Game of Thrones fan and reader of the series it is based on A Song of Ice and Fire. I, like most readers and viewers, have been on eggs shells waiting for the final season of Game of Thrones to begin.

Today Sunday, April 14, 2019, is the premiere of season 8 of Game of Thrones. I have been hunting for fun things to do throughout the final season to make it memorable for my friends and myself. So here are 6 ways to celebrate season 8.

1. Recap EVERYTHING and brush up on the theories!!

Not much a celebration but if you roll into season 8 not well versed in the lore and theories of the Westeros universe you will be confused. I know readers and viewers alike who want to be surprised by the epic ending, but I also know there are many readers and viewers like myself who want to know all of the possibilities!

Season 8 is hhuuuggeeeeeeeeeee because it is an ending to not only the show but also a preview ending for GRRM famous series A Song of Ice and Fire.

You can do a few things to refresh your memory:

  1. Read/Reread A Song of Ice and Fire
  2. Thumb through The World of Ice and fire
  3. Rewatch all of the seasons
  4. Watch a recap video
  5. Read theories

2. Game of Thrones Viewing Party

I am hosting a viewing party for the first and last episodes of season eight. Decorations are up, black of course because I live in a Stark household, books on display and pizza will be ordered.

We will be starting out festivities a few hours before the premiere so we can watch a recap video, the last episode of season seven, and fill out our death prediction sheets.

IMG_8954I made sure to pull out my nicest editions of A Song of Ice and Fire, my copy of The World of Ice and Fire, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Fire and Blood for decoration and reference throughout the season. I know we will be flipping madly through them as we recap.

If you are interested in reading any of the books while this season airs I highly recommend looking in the audiobook versions and starting at book three, A Storm of Swords, because that is where the show and books start to really differ. That is purely a recommendation from me, having read the books and watched the show.

Friends and I will rotate houses for the episodes. The main thing: we watch and cry together while hoping our favorites make it to the end. If you have a friend who enjoys A Game of Thrones, I highly recommend watching the last season together.

3. A Death Prediction Game

While waiting for the season premiere date to release my friends and myself discussed rumors and theories we believed and had discovered. We had talked about starting a bet over whose theories would come to fruition but I decided a friendly prediction game based on point and bragging rights would be best for us.

Screen Shot 2019-04-11 at 1.04.12 PMI came across an article about a Boss who created a Game of Thrones death pool for his employees. As soon as I saw his pool sheet I knew I had to mold it to my needs. To the left, is a picture of the original Game of Thrones death pool sheet.

I redesigned it to look more my style, it is the picture on the right. I have attached the PDF file below under the file name GameofThones. Feel free to use either. Screen Shot 2019-04-11 at 2.08.49 PM

We are going to fill the death prediction sheet after watching a recap video of alllllll the events leading up to season 8.

Attached is a pdf file of my version.

4. A Themed Potluck

Searching through the internet for Game of Thrones-themed dishes I found this amazing list of 50 dishes inspired by Game of Thrones. Each dish is named in a Game of Thrones fashion and linked to a recipe! Beyond food, there is an assortment of Game of Thrones alcohol for sale this year, which makes it easy to pair themed wines with your themed meals. I decided to push this yummy idea to next week episode.

5. Plan A Game of Thrones Trip

While watching the show you have ground attached to a few of the places or kingdoms. Why plan to visit where the show filmed. I definitely plan to do this in the future. A blogger I follow, The Orangutan Librarian posted about a visit, check the post out here.

6. Don’t Watch and Binge!

Don’t watch a single episode of season 8 until the season is over. Why would you want to do this to yourself?? I have no idea, but a friend of mine is planning on waiting until all of the episodes have been released.

I am sure I could think of 10+ more ways to celebrate Game of Thrones but I have to finish reading up on theories and plotting out my perfect ending. I am hoping, that once the last episode airs GRRM will shock us all and release the next book in the series. A reader can dream…

You can view A Game of Thrones on HBO through your cable provider, HBOGO, HBO Now, or add on HBO to your Hulu subscription.

Do you have any plans for the premiere tonight? Do you watch Game of Thrones? Have you read the series? Who do you think will set on the Iron Throne…if there even is one??

*** there are errors in the handout I made.*****
