I love a good scary movie, almost more so than a horror book. I am not an active reader in the horror world, but have dabbled with those that have a movie adaptation. If you are looking for your next book to movie read, you have found the perfect list. You won’t find King on this list. We all know he is the go to for books with movie adaptations.
Hope these titles can add a little fright into your spooky season.
1. Fear Street series by R.L. Stine
Netflix recently released a three part movie series: Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. All based on R.L. Stine’s Fear Street novels. If you are a Fear Street reader, you will enjoy the movies. They have the same vibe as the books with a more cohesive modern story line.
2.Bird Box by Josh Malerman
Another Netflix gem. Bird Box freaked me out. Book and movie alike. There is something about having to limit one of your sense that gives me fit of claustrophobia, more so that sense being sight.
3. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alan Schwartz
One of my favorite spooky series. I am not sure if there are any of us who did not sneak these into sleep over to read. The movie Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, lived up to the hype for me. It was spooky, but not scary. A perfect way to spend a Friday night with popcorn.
4. Annihilation by James Vandermeer
The book series is amazing, a review is coming one of these days. The movie disturbed me. Annihilation is an unsettling horror science fiction. The bear and the ending haunt me to this day. I love how the movie gave an “ending,” even if it differed from the book. It is on the rare cases in which I enjoyed both the book and the movie equally.
5. The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren by Gerald Brittle
This is a nonfiction piece covering the cases investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Demonologist freaked me out, if you order the right edition there are pictures included. These cases inspired the The Conjuring Universe.
Have you you dared to read or watch any of these chilling titles?
