Mini Reviews: 8 books I finished in June

I have been so busy reading I have not posted really anything about what I have been reading. Here are eight books I finished in June. Full reviews for each are coming soon!

1.Ten Thousand Doors of January by

Honestly this book had amazing ideas but did not pull me in. There was so much potential for this book to be 10/10, but it felt like I was being dragged along. Keep an eye out for a longer breakout of The Ten Thousand Doors of January.

2. The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

This book kept me on my toes. I enjoyed the characters and lore the R.F. Kuang created. If you are looking for a fantasy book featuring young people, a magic system, and a focus on military interactions this is the book for you.

3. What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher

I have been working through T. Kingfisher’s work, each has offered laughs and spooks. That was not the case for What Moves the Dead. This book is where Kingfisher honed her craft to disturb readers. I cannot wait for book two.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

4. The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher

The folklore horror weaved throughout The Twisted Ones was 10/10, but the plot and characters seemed very similar to The Hollow Places. Because of the similarities I couldn’t rate it higher than 3 stars.

5.Shrek! by William Steig

Shrek! is a short picture book about a mean ogre who finds an ugly princess and they get married. The book is 32 pages, but I would love to see this story explored in a chapter book. I think it makes for a fun read. I checked this out from my local library, but I am sure you can buy a copy.

6.The Bone shard war by andrea stewart

I have so many things to say about the conclusion of this wonderful series, but for now know I was pleased.

7.The first Horro by R.L. Stine

I have a handful of The Fear Street books over the years and thought it would be fun to read them in order. AND they are always available in the library. Book one is likely the most coherent of all of Fear Street books I have read.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

8.Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

It was a fun cozy read. I would have liked just a little more depth/action, but I will likely keep reading within the series as they release. Sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype for me.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

There are some scenes from Fear Street that still haunt my thoughts from when I was a kid. But as an adult, I’m like “there’s no possible way that could have even happened.” I still refuse to re-read them. Even though I would all the time as a kid lmao.
