This read has been recommended to me many times, almost as many times as I have held it in my hands at the bookstore. In 2018 my goal was to read YA about social issues, diversity, and the world. Friends who knew about my reading goal gave me a list of reads, sadly I never got to this one.

“On the corner of American Street and Joy Road, Fabiola Toussaint thought she would finally find une belle vie—a good life.

But after they leave Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Fabiola’s mother is detained by U.S. immigration, leaving Fabiola to navigate her loud American cousins, Chantal, Donna, and Princess; the grittiness of Detroit’s west side; a new school; and a surprising romance, all on her own.” Summary from Goodreads.

Have you read American Street? Do you want to/plan to? What were your reading goals for 2018?
