A Wrinkle In Time

I am not going to lie, I saw the movie and then read the book. I know, what a bad reader! A Wrinkle In Time is one of the only books to be recommended to me once and then never again. It was as if the book had disappeared until it started popping up everywhere as the movie was announced and released.

A Wrinkle In Time is an interplanetary journey of love and science. I couldn’t help within the first few chapters to fall in love with Meg Murry, the main character. I enjoyed the strong themes of embracing one’s self, love, and family. I haven’t been reading a lot of books that have a pleasant family dynamic, so it was refreshing to read a story with a strong family bond.

Meg Murry is an awkward and hurting teen. She misses her father and faces daily ridicule about the disappearance of her father from her peers. She knows he didn’t walk out on their family, didn’t start a new family, and isn’t dead. Her mother is caring, smart, and strong. Meg has three younger siblings, two of which are twins and one imparticular, Charles Wallace, is wise beyond his years. He leads Meg with her friend, Calvin O’Keefe, on an unforgettable adventure through time and space to rescue her father with the aid of celestial witches/beings.

I didn’t love this book. It was a little slow to be, but I did enjoy it. I found myself smiling many times and relating far too often with Meg. A Wrinkle In Time has mixed reviews and after reading I understand. I will go on to read the rest of the series in time, but as of now, I am not going to pursue them.

A Wrinkle In Time is a short read, you can curl up on a rainy day and easily finish it that day. The books to follow are short as well~ I have a nice box set I bought myself. The books have a nice font size and word spacing.

A Wrinkle In Time would make for a great book to read aloud or read with someone. If you are looking for more books to read with friends or family check out my list.

If you have a young reader, upper elementary or middle schooler, I recommend A Wrinkle In Time for that age group. An older reader may not enjoy the story as much as a younger reader, but if you are still a child at heart this read is most definitely for you.
