Book Haul: 3 Books I bought in June

I am still working through books I own and reading from libraries, but I do buy books here and there. Here are the books I bought in June!

1.The Book that Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence

Summary:

The boy has lived his whole life trapped within a book-choked chamber older than empires and larger than cities.

The girl has been plucked from the outskirts of civilization to be trained as a librarian, studying the mysteries of the great library at the heart of her kingdom.

They were never supposed to meet. But in the library, they did.

Their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another. A journey on which knowledge erodes certainty and on which, though the pen may be mightier than the sword, blood will be spilled and cities burned.

I bought this purely based on the cover.

2.The Deep by Nick Cutter

Summary:

A strange plague called the ‘Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget—small things at first, like where they left their keys, then the not-so-small things, like how to drive or the letters of the alphabet. Their bodies forget how to function involuntarily. There is no cure.

But far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, a universal healer hailed as “ambrosia” has been discovered. In order to study this phenomenon, a special research lab has been built eight miles under the sea’s surface. But when the station goes incommunicado, a brave few descend through the lightless fathoms in hopes of unraveling the mysteries lurking at those crushing depths…and perhaps to encounter an evil blacker than anything one could possibly imagine.

I have had my eye on this book for a while, I was stoked to snag The Deep as a kindle deal. I couldn’t stomach The Troop, read my review here, so I hope this one is better for me.

3.The Winnowing Flame Trilogy by Jen Williams

Summary:

THE NINTH RAIN

The great city of Ebora once glittered with gold. Now its streets are stalked by wolves.

Tormalin the Oathless has no taste for sitting around waiting to die – and when eccentric explorer, Lady Vincenza ‘Vintage’ de Grazon, offers him employment, he sees an easy way out.

Joined by a fugitive witch with a tendency to set things on fire, the adventurers are quickly drawn into a tangled conspiracy of magic and war.

For the Jure’lia are coming, and the Ninth Rain must fall…

THE BITTER TWINS

The Ninth Rain has fallen. The Jure’lia are awake.

Tormalin the Oathless and the fell-witch Noon must rally the first war-beasts to be born in Ebora for three centuries – hatched too soon and with no memory of their past incarnations, these winged creature are unprepared to face an ancient enemy who grow stronger each day.

Vintage believes the key to uniting the war-beasts may lie on a distant and mysterious island.
A perilous journey lies ahead, while new monsters lie in wait for those left behind.

THE POISON SONG

The war is far from over.

In Ebora, all is chaos, all is confusion. The connection that Tormalin, Noon and Vintage share with their war-beasts has kept them alive so far, but with Tor’s sister Hestillion hell-bent on bringing ruthless order to the next enemy attack – the people of Sarn will need all the help they can get.

But even she underestimates the epic quest that is to a reckoning that will change Sarn forever.
